WATERS

Most of the numerous Turkish rivers are used for energy production. The Eastern Anatolia Tigris and Euphrates rivers flow into the Basra Gulf. 9,200 sq km of the land of lakes are used, of which most are located in Eastern Anatolia. The 3,713 sq km with the largest lake in Turkey is the Van Lake, even on the steamboat travel. The larger lakes in Central Anatolia are shallow and salty.
For international trade and marine transport are the Marmara Sea with its internal straits and the Black Sea important waterways. The completely within Turkish borders are internal Marmara Sea and the Bosporus open to the Black Sea, while the Dardanelles connect to the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean.
